Training - San Dan Gi No2

San Dan Gi or three level training exercise is a very useful preparatory tool for kata and kumite. They teach stance transition, timing, distance and control. Sensei Andrews teaches 5 different sets of San Dan Gi with many different variations, with these variations even the most basic of San Dan GI like number one can be made more challenging for higher grades. Sets can be practised solo or paired up. When attacking Dan grades start from Heiko Dachi whilst Kyu Grades start from Sanchin Dachi.(Musubi Dachi when defending)

San Dan GI Number Two (Attacks)

Step forward in Sanchin Dachi and punch Jodan
Step forward in Sanchin Dachi and punch Chudan
Kick Chudan Mae Geri landing in Naname Shiko Dachi and punch Gedan
(45 degree straddle stance)

San Dan GI Number Two (Defence)

Step back into Sanchin Dachi and block Jodan Uke
Step back into Sanchin Dachi and block Chudan Uke
Step back into Kokutsu Dachi bringing lead arm towards oneself in a scooping forearm block, this same arm then performs a strong Gedan Barai/Tettsui Uchi.

Variation after the last defensive step into Kokutsu Dachi pivot into Zenkutsu Dachi and strike Jodan Nukite then return to Kokutsu Dachi blocking Shotei Gedan Barai
